Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970049965

I was not present on June 11 to participate in the special orders commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Baltic holocause. I am pleased that so many of my colleagues participated in a special order commemorating the 40th anniversary. The occasion marks a tragic event in the history of the Baltic States. The Soviet armies invaded the Baltic nations and ruthlessly terrorized the Baltic peoples. Within a few years. the Soviets deported hundreds of thousands of Latvians. Lithuanians. and Estonians from their homelands to Soviet prison camps in Siberia. I want specially to observe this sad anniversary and express my sincere wishes for the freedom of the Baltic nations.
