I am pleased to announce that 95 Members of the House have joined me in cosponsoring House Concurrent Resolution 100 expressing the sense of Congress regarding the Pentecostals right to practice their faith and to emigrate if they choose. Mr. Speaker. the struggle of these brave individuals for religious freedom has forced them to seek to emigrate from the Soviet Union. Since long before they first entered our Embassy in Moscow on June 27. 1978. they have waited patiently for a visa to leave the Soviet Union. Three years ago. Peter and Augustina Vashchenko with four of their children: Lidia. Lyubov. Lilia. and John. and Maria Chmykhalov with her son. Timothy. went to our Embassy to seek assistance in securing exit visas from the U.S.S.R. and to inquire about immigrating to the United States. They had traveled 2.000 miles from their home in Chernogorsk. Siberia. to seek U.S. advice.
