Florida has been utilizing the Federal domestic assistance funds to provide these entrants with the necessary educational and employment training skills needed to alleviate the need for governmental assistance. The social service program funded by the Federal Government and operated by the State of Florida has been making progress in assisting these individuals to obtain employment. The Office of Refugee Resettlement recently commended the State of Floridas social service program for the special emphasis it places on employment and language skills. If funds for this program are reduced by half. then the entrants will not receive the necessary occupational and linguistic skills they will need to be selfsufficient. The State of Florida. like the 30 other States hosting the Cuban and Haitian entrants. simply does not have the resources necessary to deal with a problem of this magnitude.
