If I may go on. just let me point out that I believe this amendment would deny services to the following groups of people: Persons who have applied for political asylum in this country. persons whose U.S. citizenship is in dispute. Cuban and Haitian entrants who have been granted special legal status to remain in this country. spouses and children of permanent resident aliens. H2 workers who have entered the country. persons needing legal assistance to document their eligibility for U.S. citizenship or resident alien status. persons who have been granted humanitarian parole. persons who claim derivative U.S. citizenship status. persons granted stays of deportation. All of these people would be precluded from even being able to establish that they may be here under "color of law." I think that this amendment goes entirely too far and. therefore. I oppose it and oppose it strenuously.
