Allowing the LSC to engage in lobbying activities is a flawed concept. It is not right or fair for all taxpayers to fund lobbying activities on behalf of any position for which they are in disagreement. The prohibition on representation of illegal aliens is rendered meaningless by limiting it to individuals "known to be" in the United States in violation of the law. Anyone with commonsense knows that it cannot definitely be known if one is in the United States unlawfully until it has been adjudicated in court. or before an administrative body. The Legal Services Corporation will continue to represent illegal aliens both in deportation and in actions to obtain more Government benefits. American tax dollars should not be spent to represent those who are illegally in the United States. The language on prohibiting LSC funds from being used for abortion litigation is full of crevices which LSC attorneys will widen into chasms.
