In order to insure the success of their intentions. the Soviets ordered massive deportations and executions. First. the intellectuals and those who were politically inclined were executed. then efforts were concentrated against the peasants and others who asked for nothing but to be left alone to live in peace. The deportations continued from mid1940 into 1941. By June 1941. Soviet designs became quite clear when Estonia.
