Mr. Speaker. I join my colleagues today in commemorating the 50th birthday of exiled Soviet refusenik Ida Nudel. Of all those who have been sent to prison or placed in exile as a result of their desire to emigrate. Ida Nudel stands out for her courage and her vigilance in the face of harassment. intimidation. and imprisonment. Since her arrest on June 21. 1978. she has persevered the harsh conditions of her incarceration. It is entirely fitting that Members of the House of Representatives join together to remind the American people and the Soviet Union that we have not forgotten about the plight of Ida Nudel.
