AT N.Y.U. (By Dorothy J. Gaiter) When John Brademas was a boy. his father. a Greek immigrant. taught him that a good education was essential. "He said that he wouldnt be able to leave us a lot of money." Mr. Brademas recalled yesterday. "but that we would have a firstrate education." Mr. Brademas. a former United States Representative from Indianas Third District. who was named Tuesday as the 13th president of New York University. never lost sight of the importance of education or forgot his fathers frequent quoting of Socrates admonition. "Things of value come only after hard work." Mr. Brademas said his father always added. "If thats all the Greek you ever learn. its all you need to know."
