Session #97 · 1981–83

Speech #970011111

Mr. Speaker. my attention has recently been drawn to yet another Soviet violation of human rights. its refusal. since 1972. to allow Victor Yelestratov and his wife. Batsheva. to emigrate to Israel. Simply because of their desire to practice their own religion in a country of their choice. Victor and Batsheva Yelestratoy have endured persecution. harassment. and imprisonment. The plight of the Yelestratovs has been brought to world attention by the International Committee for the Yelestratovs. of Oceanside. N.Y.. and most recently by a resolution adopted by the New York State Senate and Assembly. sponsored by Senator Norman Levy and Assemblyman Dean Skelos.
