Speech #970008157

His singular courage and dedication should serve as an example to us all. losef Mendelevichs release is an occasion for rejoicing. Yet it must also serve as a time to remember the thousands of his fellow citizens in the Soviet Union who are still not free to express their identity as Jews. or to participate in the world Jewish community. The Soviet Union must be required to fulfill its international commitments to human rights. I urge my colleagues to join me in rededicating ourselves to the task of securing full human rights. including the right to emigrate. for all of Soviet Jewry and the entire people of the U.S.S.R.0
