I am deeply saddened at the tragic loss of thousands of lives in Vietnam and my heart goes out to all those who have lost loved ones in that conflict. But perhaps just as tragic is the fact that hundreds of families still remain in doubt as to whether their loved ones are dead or alive. During the past few years. I have had the occasion to review reports from refugees entering our country who indicate that Americans remain as prisoners in Southeast Asia. Given the substance and frequency of these reports. I believe that every effort should be made to ascertain their reliability.
