Even more importantand the fundamental purpose of this legislationis the increasing use of social security cards and numbers as "proof" that a prospective employee is a citizen or legal immigrant. It is the fact that many private employers accent the social security card as evidence that the prospective employee is "legal." It is the fact that many illegal aliens are aware of this. and obtain forged or said fo be available for about $50 "on the street"-in order to obtain employment.
