Session #96 · 1979–81

Speech #960322696

Mr. Speaker. I yield myself such time as I may consume. Mr. Speaker. on August 18 this body passed H.R. 7859. the Refugee Education Act of 1980 without controversy and with support from both sides of the aisle. This bill offers Federal financial support to local school districts to educate the recent influx of Cuban. Haitian. and Indochinese refugees. Last Thursday. September 25. the Senate passed H.R. 7859 by unanimous consent. The Senate version is identical to the House bill except for two provisions added in the Senate Education Subcommittee. I urge this body to accept the Senate version of the bill and pass it under suspension of the rules. in order to avoid the delay of having to go to conference.
