While we welcome these new Americans with open arms. we must recognize that we have played a major role in the reduction of internal pressures and discontent in Castros Cuba. Fidel may rest safely once again. knowing that for the near future. his dictatorial rule is unchallenged. Colleagues. now is the time to investigate the numerous human rights violations we all know are occurring in Cuba. I call on the administration to seek establishment of an investigative commission to go to Cuba and determine the extent of the suffering. The Cuban refugees tell shocking tales of cruelty and inhumanity. The world must know. once and for all. the reasons why thousands are fleeing Castros beautiful workers paradise..
