Mr. Speaker. I wish to congratulate the Order of the Sons of Italy in America for their 75th anniversary and to wish them success in the coming years. Throughout its long history. the Order of the Sons of Italy in America has provided valuable charitable and benevolent services. For instance. the order greeted immigrants at Ellis Island in New York City and helped them through their initial transition period. It established health. disability. and death benefit insurance programs decades before they were in wide use. The order also supported and helped to organize the original American Federation of Labor. And. it was one of the first fraternal organizations in the country to accord women equal status. equal voice. equal vote. and equal rights to hold office.
