Session #96 · 1979–81

Speech #960256164

Mr. Chairman. I move to strike the requisite number of words. and I rise in strong support of this amendment. Mr. Chairman. we have had successive floods of newcomers to this countrycall them illegal immigrants. undocumented workers. or people in search of sanctuary in our countryand so far historically in this country they have fallen as a very unfair burden on the particular regions through which they came into the United States. be it Arizona. Texas. California. or Florida. The fact that these people come to our country is the result of a confluence of national and international factors. and their presence here should be looked upon as a national phenomenon and at a national cost.
