Session #96 · 1979–81

Speech #960237069

I was very touched by the remarks of the gentlewoman from Massachusetts. I had the pleasure and the privilege of going with Chairman WOLFF to visit French Indochina last August. along with the distinguished minority member. We visited the refugees. the Cambodian refugees in Hong Kong. we visited Vietnam. we spoke to the chiefs of state there in that tight. little. rigid. extremist. authoritarian government. and then we visited with more of the refugees in Thailand. I am impressed by the fact that the gentlewoman from Massachusetts could describe what we saw. To me. our experience in meeting those people was of such a soulsearing nature. a heartrending nature. that the experience is almost indescribable.
