Session #96 · 1979–81

Speech #960217877

He was noticeably touched by the entire experience. and I believe he has served the Senate in the most fundamental way by conveying to us this personal and moving experience. Mr. President. the crisis of the Southeast Asian refugees continues and their plight remains far from secure. Yet. we should be aware that in the intervening months since the Danforth delegation visited the region and reported back to us. the health and living conditions of the people have improved dramatically. We have a number of dedicated organizations and individuals to praise for this result. but I did want to recognize again the selfless efforts of the Senator from Missouri and his immeasurable contribution in averting what would have been the greatest of human tragedies.
