Session #96 · 1979–81

Speech #960208686

During his infamous trial. I came before this great body and uttered the following: In the face of tyranny. it is easier to 0ow to it than to stand to it. Yet if freedom is to be found. tyranny must be challenged. It would have been easier for Anatoly not to seek his basic right to emigrate to Israel and be reunited with his wife. It would have been easier for Anatoly Shcharansky not to have joined the Helsinki Watch Group. which was set up to monitor the Soviet Unions compliance with the Helsinki Accords. But Anatoly did not bow to tyranny.
