Speech #960208225

The community continued to flourish with the church at the center of its strength. Springwells was annexed to Detroit in the early 1900s. When the present basilicalike church was built in 1925. Holy Redeemer was the largest Englishspeaking congregation in Michigan. From the early hardworking immigrant families. who made up Holy Redeemer Parish. came leaders of the city of Detroit. The parish has made an extraordinary contribution to Detroit and to the State of Michigan100 years of leadership and community commitment. I also ask that the following tribute and resolution from the Detroit City Council honoring the 100th anniversary of the Parish of the Holy Redeemer in Detroit be printed in the RECORD.
