Mr. Speaker. it gives me great pleasure to rise today on behalf of my colleagues from California. DON EDWARDS and PAUL MCCLOSKEY. to honor Father Walter E. Schmidt. S.J.. as he marks his 50th year as a Jesuit. A testimonial dinner will be held for Father Schmidt on Born in San Francisco in 1911. Walter Schmidt was the only child of Swiss immigrant parents. After graduating from St. Ignatius High School. he worked at the Bank of Italy and attended the University of San Francisco at night. Inspired by his Jesuit teachers. Walter decided to devote his life to the church.
