Karl Schwartz. celebrates 100 years of dedicated service to the western New York GermanAmerican community. Founded on August 2. 1879 by German immigrants to help other immigrants feel at home in their new country. the group originally named itself the Surtemberger Schwaben Unterstuetzungs Verein. A cultural group as well as a center for assistance for newcomers. the Schwaben Verein nurtured the lively and colorful heritage of these new citizens who came primarily from the Schwabish area of Germany. One of the most important functions of the Schwaben Verein during the 100 years of its existence has been its program to help its members in times of sickness. unemployment and death.
