In the last few years it has become clear that. far from being grateful for our help. they have learned to hate us for it. Why. then. does the administration want us to continue that aid? The Arab nations have. for the most part. not supported those refugees in past yearsnot with money. It is the American taxpayer who has kept them alive. kept them in existence. and. in the process. has unwittingly created a terrible source of unrest and threat to the peace in the Middle East. There are many other examples we might giveeven if we do not go into the ugly question of our spending in the Vietnamese war and in Southeast Asia.
