Session #93 · 1973–75

Speech #930353896

Under section 244 of the Immigration and Nationality Act. several hundred administrative decisions of the Department of Justice granting permanentresident status to aliens who have been in the United States for a period of 7 years or more are sent to the Congress annually for our review. Unless either body of Congress approves a resolution opposing the granting of permanent residence to such aliens. they will automatically acquire that status upon the adjournment of this Congress. The Immigration Subcommittee has reviewed each of the cases referred and has unanimously agreed that the granting of permanent resident alien status to the six aliens referred to in House Resolution 1518 is not warranted. This resolution has been cleared on both sides of the aisle and I would urge its approval at this time.
