There is no excuse for continuing to break our own laws by allowing Turkey to use U.S. military supplies to maintain their takeover of Cyprus. A Library of Congress analysis states that the cutoff of aidIs not discretionary as a matter of policy. but is mandatory under the terms of the Foreign Assistance Act. About 180.000 Greek Cypriots were displaced by Turkish forces who now occupy 40 percent of Cyprus. Thousands are still living in cold tents or shacks. Another 20.000 Turkish Cypriots live in refugee camps in the occupied area. The human suffering is incalculable. Yet it seems that little pressure is being exerted by the United States for a prompt settlement.
