The Victor Polsky trial marks the first time that official documents have been available to prove the repressive tactics used by Soviet authorities upon its "dissident" citizens. I have here hospital documents that state that 19yearold Tatyana Alexandrova Zhuhova had. in fact. attempted suicide by jumping into the street and deliberately under Polskys car. Polsky. a 44yearold engineerphysicist. has been charged with running down the girl. Prior to this arrest. he had been refused permission to emigrate to Israel because of his supposed access to secret information. The fact that he has presented evidence that his research did not involve security issues has been conveniently ignored by the Soviet authorities. They have blatantly distorted the facts in order to prosecute Polsky.
