Mr. Speaker. on June 15. Lithuanians will commemorate the forcible annexation of their country by the Soviet Union in 1940 and the subsequent deportation of their countrymen to Siberian concentration camps. As a leader of the free world. the United States must continue to condemn any action which would deprive a people of their right to selfgovernment. Unfortunately. our pleas for a free Lithuania have been ignored through the years. While we strive for detente. let us not forget captive peoples. In our hearts we know that the Soviet Union will not release its grip on these people without a fight. something to be avoided in these times of uneasy atomic peace.
