Because we our.elves are free. we have a compelling obigation to our brothers trapped behind he Iron Curtain. It seems to me that this ibligation lies particularly heavily on our wn country. for as a leader in the free vorld. the United States must help to keep the light of liberty burning brightly n order to remind those who look to the Vest for inspiration that they are not orgotten. Thirtyfour years have passed since he Baltic States were overrun by the ommunists and thousands of these iniocent people were Inhumanly exiled. deported. and murdered. The sad fate and memory of these victims are very much alive today. and on the observance of Baltic States Freedom Day we pay due tribute to theIr blessed memory. while praying for the freedom of the Baltic peoples from Communist totalitarian tyranny. On the 34th anniversary of Baltic States Freedom Day. it is particularly fitting that we remember the courageous Estonians.
