The process of d6tente is helpful to both sides. But I believe there cannot be a truly lasting friendship between our nations until there is some recognition by the Soviet Government that freedom is indivisible. it applies to all people in every country. So long as basic freedoms are being denied in the Soviet Union. there will be a psychological barrier to our relations. I hope the eloquent testimony of these people from within the Soviet Union will strengthen and propel the efforts of Americans and of our Government to seek accommodation on the emigration issue with the Soviet Government.
