I rise to speak on his behalf today because he is still in Jail and today Is his 44th birthday. He will be celebrating this birthday as he has celebrated his last threealone. behind the bars of the Potma labor camp in the Soviet Union. Lassal Kaminsky. like many other Soviet Jews. is being held in a Soviet labor camp not because he has committed a crime but because he is a Soviet Jew wishing to emigrate to Israel. He and his wife and children had applied unsuccessfully for exist visas 32 times. But Lassal Kaminsky did not give up hope that he and his family would be allowed to leave. He did not conceal his feelings but instead he wrote several letters to newspapers and government officials.
