My bill will allow an extension of 5 years for all temporary Chilean residents who are in this country at the time of enactment. In 1973. the number of temporary Chilean residents who reported under the alien address program was 4.921. I estimate that this is the number we are and will be dealing with if this legislation becomes public law. There are additional Chileans in the country. in pursuit of a pleasant tour of our great land. but they are not the ones that will choose to remain on this 5year visa program.
