We have asked that if they will not. at this time. release him. at least assure us that he is well. and his family safe and secure. I have received no response to my efforts. My request for a visa to visit Kudirka was denied. I have written Secretary of State Henry Kissinger. again on behalf of the entire Illinois delegation. asking that he convey to the Russian authorities the deep and growing concern of the American people over the seaman. On January 31. 1974. over 50 of my colleagues in the House joined me in introducing a concurrent resolution directing the President to inform the Human Rights Commission of the United Nations of our concern for Kudirka. and ask the United Nations to request his release from prison. or at least an assurance of his health and wellbeing.
