Session #93 · 1973–75

Speech #930124410

At first. it was airlines which capitulated to the demands of the terrorists. Now we are treated to the spectacle of an entire nation reversing a longstanding humanitarian policy because of the depraved actions of two amoral fanatics. Chancellor Kreisky of Austria tells us that he made the decision to close the emigration center at Schonau because it was the only way to save the lives of the three Jewish hostages taken by the Palestinians. He says that he does not want Austria to become a center of conflict in the confrontation between Israel and the Arab States and their terrorist minions. He tries to reassure us that Austria will still be open to those who want to travel through it to some other country.
