I am sure that members who are always concerned with immigration problems notice the difficulty in getting work permits for immigrants to work as domestics in the United States. We all are familiar with the complaints we hear from our wives because they are running short of maids. cooks. and so forth. and how it is that the immigration authorities will not certify that this is employment of a nature where we have a material shortage. The reason is that they cannot. There are many people who want these jobs but who are prevented because they do not pay enough and the conditions under which they have to work are not such as a dignified person would wish to undertake.
