Session #93 · 1973–75

Speech #930062104

One is an open letter from Professor Azbel to the scientists of the world. and the other is a statement by the seven scientists on entering into their hunger strike. Mr. President. I would like to call attention in particular to a sentence in the joint statement expressing the scientists fear that "for all we know this new kind of serfdom may be sanctified silently by many political leaders of the world." I am proud that the Congress of the United States is not silent and that 77 Senators and more than 275 Representatives have taken a strong stand by cosponsoring the EastWest Trade and Freedom of Emigration amendment. I ask unanimous consent that these two appeals be printed in the RECORD.
