Speech #920311987

Mr. Speaker. on this Columbus Day I rise to pay tribute not only to the great navigator. Christopher Columbus. but to the millions of Americans of Italian ancestry who have contributed so much to the growth and wellbeing of our Nation. We are a Nation of immigrants. In the 480 years since Columbus first set foot on this continent. we have grown .and prospered from the influx of many peoples. Each national group has left Its stamp on our society. and none have done so with such zest as our fellow Americans whose ancestors were Italian. Any nation would be proud to claim a Brumidi.
