Mr. Speaker. in one appropriation bill the House of Representatives is taking a great step forward in aid to humanityforeign and domestic. It appropriated $85 million foreign aid for the resettlement of Soviet Jewish refugees in Israel. There had been much talk. resolutions and meetings on this most serious humane problem and finally material help has been given. We provide aid to Israel because we believe in its goals and respect the viability of its Government and its role as one of the last homes of freedom in that part of the world. We give aid to Israel for it Is in our own national interest to have a secure. free Israel. our only real friend on the southern coast of the Mediterranean.
