Spanishspeaking persons are bearing the brunt of this campaign and. as a result of halftruths and innuendos. they are being defamed and degraded. We have only to recall the humiliation heaped upon Mrs. Romana Bafiuelosa distinguished Mexican American from southern Californialast year. Earlier this month. on March 10 and 11. the Immigration Subcommittee conducted hearings in New York City. One of the witnesses was Mr. Rene Anselmo. executive vice president of Spanish International Network and a person intimately familiar with the Spanishspeaking community. not only in New York but throughout the country. Mr. Anselmos testimony was very forceful and described many of the abuses and problems suffered by the Spanishspeaking alien.
