Session #92 · 1971–73

Speech #920156683

Mr. Speaker. recently I cosponsored H.R. 8462 which provides for the issuance of special immigrant visas for children of VietnameseAmerican parentage who have been orphaned or abandoned by either or both parents. A Christian Science Monitor survey illuminates the problem. The 15.000 Americanfathered Vietnam war children face a precarious future. Social service organizations dealing with the problem in the United States and Asia disclose that thousands of Americanfathered Japanese and Korean children have grown up ostracized by society which sweep them under the rug. The U.S. Government also had a hand on the broom. I commend the articles to my colleagues.
