Jeffrey Faux. formerly director of the title 1D economic development program effort of the Office of Economic Opportunity. and at present with the Community Development Corporation in Cambridge. Mass. testified that: It is not easy to conclude that an important part of the solution to rural poverty Is in the redistribution of land. Such a solution seems to lie so far into the future. and each day that goes by Is another wave of suffering for migrants and other rural poor people. But after seven years of trying to cure poverty with bandaids. we cannot continue to delude ourselves as to the real nature of the disease. Ironically. the United States has been preaching the virtues of land reform for less developed countries since the end of World War II.
