I announce that the subcommittee will hold hearings on November 4 and 5. 1971. to continue its study of the effects of rural land holding. land ownership. and land use patterns on the social. economic. and political problems of both rural and urban America. A thorough study of the needs of migrant labor and the rural poor entails getting the facts. What information exists today concerning the ownership of rural America is scattered and incomplete. A Federal Government which spends millions of dollars on rural social and economic research of dubious value has done little on the basic question of who owns the land and the resources in rural America.
