I canceled some plans I had made previously to address a Fourth of July rally in another part of my district and hurried to Chicago to offer any possible assistance to this family as they made their way to the gates of freedom in our country. When they arrived they. of course. asked for political asylum. and were given conditional entry into our country pending a decision on this application. I will never forget the tears of joy and relief that flooded down the faces of these refugees of Communist tyranny as they realized at long last they had achieved the impossible dream of coming within the warm embrace of friends and relatives who live under a democratic system of government.
