Mr. Speaker. we are now engaged in the 13th annual observance of Captive Nations Week. It is fitting that we set aside this week each year to focus our attention on our 100 million captive brothers and sisters in Communistdominated Eastern and Central Europe. Early in this century many American immigrants were fortunate enough to have escaped Communist oppression in their native lands. Others were not so fortunate and were forced to remain behind. It is to these proud people we now offer our affection and our admiration. Americans everywhere feel a deep compassion for their loved ones across the ocean.
