Session #91 · 1969–71

Speech #910322164

Although the harsh realities of international politics may limit the extent of U.S. intercession in behalf of those Jews persecuted by Soviet policies of intellectual. cultural. and political repression. our actions will clearly indicate the intensity of American disgust and outrage. Another avenue of protest is through the United Nations itself. With the Simas incident already blemishing the idea of America as a haven for refugees from political repression. we can illafford to remain silent while anothr travesty of human dignity occurs. To remain passive when such grave injustices are being dealt to the principle of political tolerance. condones yet another betrayal of our national ideals. I call upon the Soviet Union to honor its commitment. to the U.N.
