I would like to bring to the attention of the Senate a problem which. I believe. needs not only the attention of this body. but also the attention of the entire American public. because I do not believe there is sufficient knowledge about this matter. at least that I have read in the press or in any part of the news media. nor have I heard it brought to the attention of the Senate before. I think it should be understood at this time that there is serious malnutrition and the lack of sufficient food faces at least 70.000 to 100.000 Laotian refugees fleeing from northern Laos. The U.S. Department of State. through the Agency for International Development. is currently without sufficient funds to transport needed foodstuffs to Laos offered by volunteer organizations.
