Session #91 · 1969–71

Speech #910087555

In fact. as of now. live animal prices and wholesale dressed beef prices have declined to figures almost as low as those which prevailed in the early months of 1969. For the remainder of this year. they are not likely to change much from present prices and values. Thus. I emphasize that any relaxation of the restrictions on imports which have been imposed under the quota law would amount to a gross injustice to the ranchers and feeders of the United States. Furthermore. I submit the quotas could not be justifiably suspended in the national interest on the argument that prices to growers and feeders were unreasonably high.
