And now. the second person whom we in America will honor is the father of all immigrantsChristopher Columbus. On September 8. 1966. the House of Representatives passed legislation to provide for procurement of a marble bust of Constantino Brumidi. the great Italian artist who has come to be known as the "Michelangelo of the Capitol" because he labored for more than 25 years to beautify the Capitol of the United States with his stirring murals. his colorful paintings. his bold and moving frescoes. and the exquisite bronze stairways which he designed. Evidence of Brunidis artistic genius can be found everywhere in the Capitol Building which owes its interior beauty to him more than to any other man.
