Session #90 · 1967–69

Speech #900311998

Mr. Speaker. I yield myself such time as I may consume. Mr. Speaker. as the chairman of the subcommittee has explained. this bill accords nuns. brothers. sisters. and missionaries special immigration status. That is. they would be admitted without regard to the current numerical limitation on immigration. Mr. Speaker. questions arise whether there are sufficient safeguards In the bill so that there will not be in the first Instance an unlimited number of missionaries. nuns. brothers. and sisters coming in. and second. that those who come in are sought by accredited religious organizations. I assure the Members of the House these questions were of deep concern to the committee.
