President. the visit of King Olav. of Norway. so close to the 154th anniversary of Norwegian independence reminds us of the common bonds our State has with the Norwegian people. The spirit shown by the people of Norway in their long fight for independence represents the same pioneering spirit that built this Nation. The vast prairies of the upper Midwest provided thousands upon thousands of immigrants to build a new new life for themselves on their own land. North Dakotans have long recognized these contributions and have returned a part of themselves to their homeland. King Olavs whirlwind trip has lasted long enough for us to know this modern monarch of a democratic nation as a man of his people.
