The government refused to grant visas to German and Austrian bishops who had accepted an invitation to the millennium celebration at Jasna Gora. in Czestochowa. The government also limited visits by American bishops of Polish descent to a minimum. I hope that the joining by members of Congress and millions of other Americans in the celebration of Polands millennium will convince the Poles that they have not been forgotten by the free world.
